Yes you heard me, we have several cooks coming up here in the Huffin house! Last night I asked for volunteers and Sir N and bubba said we will. So they could not come up with anything, I suggest some kind of potato. Ok so a Potato dish is is! How i toldem have at it. They did and it was yummy.
They took potato's, peeled, hollowed them out.
Chopped onion, mushroom, carrot, celery, and I think thats about it
they mixed them together and stuffed the potato's
Baked until done! YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We will be remembering and doing this again. I think what I like most is its from their head. Thinking about what the main ingredient will be and what goes well, and making it work. On their own, I did not help, no one did! This happens a lot. I need to blog more and put it up!
Next Cooking moment was a few weeks ago. Sir N said he wanted to make spagetti, ok cool. We can arrange that. He says "from scratch" no biggie, do it all the time- ha I thought. His scratch and mine are different.
He made a list of what he needed- right down to amounts of each thing. On this list was fresh tomato, fresh green, yellow and red pepper, and much more fresh veggies.
Ok what ya doing I ask, no sauce, canned tomato, tomato sauce at least? He says big "NO"
So I went and picked it up. Now I have to say at this point I was a little uneasy at what we would end up with. We are talking a 9 year old making it up himself, from fresh ingredients.
I am sure other parents can understand the worry, (panic), mind running with endless outcomes.
But I have tried very hard to not stop creative process in the kids.
I got it all home, asked if he wanted help, nope he says. He went to work
When it was done it was so AWESOME he did not make enough. We pigged! it was great! We cant get enough. He made it again the other night and it was delicous!
Little chefs in my house!
We decided to take the potato dish and do it as a breakfast dish for Christmas breakfast!
We will use breakfast foods for it, prep work the night before, and throw in oven come morning! I'll tell ya how it turns out.
So I moved here from homeschoolblogger.com. Its become a place to write about it all, my day, the fun, kids, work, home school adventures, journaling, thoughts and feelings, the good the bad oh and hey maybe the ugly! naaaa I see no ugly, so its the good the bad and the beautifuuuul! Trying to keep track of it all, a reminder to us of all that we have on the days we are down, a hello to family and friends that live far away.

LETS ROLL!!!!!!!!!!
yes you read right! But I know you dont know what I am talking about!
So 3 weeks ago our big fridge gave up and stopped working, then the other day the other fridge, old and hanging on for life sprung a leak, no longer working a couple days ago(not going into the embarrassing details on how that happened, lets just say I was stupid)
So today Boo and I roll the big fridge to the back yard, its door down so it cant be gotten into, behind the house. Then I tape the leaky fridge shut, make everyone go outside or upstairs, still leaky when messed with, I had Boo snap pics to show ya all cause AI am a nut! I rolled it out to the fridge grave yard to await transport to a better place!
New fridge arrives! Delivery guy was only to deliver to door, not help bring it in. This fridge is huge, he says " I hope you have help" Um ya me and my 15 year old, point at him, he looks at us and says ok I'll help if you promise not to hold me responsible for any damage if door jam is ruined or anything, my response " I fully intend on jacking up the door!" lol
So he helps, I am so glad he did, I would not have managed it its so big. Its 25 cubic ft! Its used, but in good shape, and new to me. It has warranty, and is paid for!
heres pics, makes me look like I have no food! We do have food just not in the fridge, goping to have to go shopping for more!

High Fiber drink mix! Honey N Garlic and cast Iron!
Ya so I have this stuff I drink or eat, its pretty good. The kids even drink it. It has flax seed in it and we all love flax here! Well the bottle is almost gone, so I was going to buy more pay day. Last night I got to thinking, exactly whats in it? Grab the bottle read the ingredients- hm interesting, ground flax, ground unprocessed bran flakes, and oat flakes. Thats it! I have all that at home, and I have fresh stiff! Not the oat flakes but steel cut oats- even better. So I pulled out the blender(it was busy yesterday) Throw in some flax, bran and oats, grind it up real good and dump it into a gallon jar. I only filled the bottle 1/2 way. Flax wont last forever once its ground up. So its in the fridge, with the scoop and directions to use on the side. The good thing about this stuff is not only does it taste good, but you can drink it- milk or water. Its thick at the bottom so you have to stir constantly. But you can (even better) eat it in yogurt! And I made yogurt on Saturday, me and my Baby E! It turned out thick and yummy. I used the crock pot to keep it warm this time, it worked great! Its the best batch I have made since I stopped getting fresh raw milk to make it. SO you can put my flax mix in it, or apple sauce and eat it. And its good! Tastes kinda nutty.
Before this I had to make some honey/garlic mix again. I did it a little different this time. Instead of using the garlic press after I peeled it, I chopped it, then I put it and the honey in the blender and let it go! So its much smaller pieces this time, and garlicier! Is that a word? HMMM dont know but you get the point. It tastes good, and when you take a tsp you can feel the garlic. It tastes even better! I know I am weird. Most people dont like it, but I do, the kids do and mom does. And it helps our soar throats when they pop up!
I spent Saturday cleaning up my cast iron pans and seasoning them. They had been sitting so long they needed redone. One of the deep dutch oven was so rusted, it was pitted horrid. I did not think I was going to save it. But I had a new idea to try and it worked! I pulled out my handy little hand sander and sanded that thing! Got rid of the rust and pits! It came out looking better than the rest of the pans! I may sand em all! So they are all seasoned, and hanging. With the exception of the dutch ovens, they are stacked next to the stove in easy view and reach. Hopefully they will get used now. I printed out directions for cleaning and hung by the sink. So maybe this time it works.
